Why it matters here

Households on the north side of Mountain House currently sit farthest from the single existing station. A second station shortens the drive for medical calls and structure fires in exactly the area adding the most rooftops.

San Joaquin County planners approved a second fire station serving north Mountain House, clearing a step that has followed the town’s growth for several years.

The existing station covers the entire community from a single location. As housing has pushed north, the drive time to the newest neighbourhoods has lengthened, and response time is the metric that matters most for cardiac calls and structure fires alike.

Why a second station matters

Fire and emergency medical services in Mountain House are provided under contract with the French Camp McKinley Fire District. Adding a station changes the arithmetic of that contract: more coverage, but also more staffing cost carried by a city that has only just started setting its own budget.

That trade-off is a council decision now, not a county one — and it is the kind of line item worth watching in the first locally adopted budget.
